One of the most popular flooring types for homeowners is laminate. It's an affordable and durable option that can last a long time with proper maintenance. But how durable is it, really? Below, we'll explore some qualities about laminate floors to help you decide whether or not this type of flooring will work for your home.
Aesthetic Design
Laminate is a type of engineered flooring, which means it's crafted with multiple layers. The surface layer providing the style and design aesthetic is made from melamine resin or plastic that has been fused to high-density fiberboard (HDF). It often looks like wood, stone or tile but laminate typically costs less than those other surfaces.
Harder
When choosing the right laminate floor, it's important to consider your lifestyle and home environment. Keep in mind that certain types of foot traffic are harder on floors than others so if you have kids or pets who frequently run around barefoot then laminate isn't a good choice for you. Laminated floors can withstand some water exposure but they're not recommended for bathrooms.
Maintenance
In terms of maintenance, you'll want to sweep or vacuum daily with a dust mop and damp-mop as needed. Do avoid the use of harsh chemicals that could damage your flooring over time. If spills occur then quickly wipe it up before it has time to seep into the cracks of the subfloor.
